SOME TIPS FOR A GREENER LIFESTYLE

South Midlands Renewable Energy Advice Centre (SMREAC) offers free advice and info on solar water heating, photovoltaics, wind power and much more. It also runs an education service with a Renewable Energy Display Trailer for use in schools, fetes, youth centres, towns and village centres.

  • Use Fair Trade tea, coffee and sugar at home and in the workplace. Available from OXFAM, Traidcraft and supermarkets. Fair Trade helps small farmers and their families.
  • Buy loose fruits and vegetables, and compost all your garden and kitchen waste.
  • Recycle as much of your household rubbish as possible: tins, glass, paper, etc.
  • Buy goods made from recycled materials such as kitchen paper and rubbish bags.
  • Take old and unused clothing to charity shops or recycle it.
  • Dispose of household appliances such as fridges at approved disposal sites, or contact your local council to find out if they have a collection service for such items.
  • There are charities and organisations which recycle and use old but serviceable furniture. Contact your local council for more details.
  • Support your local charity shops.
  • Buy green concentrated washing liquids and powders.
  • Take a reusable bag shopping and say no to all those unwanted plastic bags.
