This is a privately published softback book which guides the reader on an historical tour through this charming area of English countryside. The river Cherwell, meandering as it does from Northamptonshire southwards to Oxford, is the basis for a fascinating stroll through times and places the length of the river. The book offers enthralling reading for both local history enthusiasts and casual readers alike - not forgetting, of course, present day inhabitants of this region and those who have had reason to work hereabouts in recent years (amongst whom must be counted all the American servicemen and women at Upper Heyford airbase, who for many years formed the backbone of the economy of the villages located astride the Cherwell valley and visited by the author). In fact, former airbase personnel will find a great deal to interest them in this publication. Other places encountered en route include the villages of Souldern, Somerton, Fritwell, Lower Heyford, Middleton Stoney and Oxford. The book contains 108 pages and includes 24 black and white illustrations, several of which are from private sources. HOW
